Service Provider

A service provider is any person or entity who provides a service, directly or indirectly, to an employee benefit plan for compensation. Operation of welfare plans requires the services of numerous providers to perform the duties that plan trustees are unable to undertake personally as well as to service participants. Examples of service providers include claims processors, administrators, actuaries, accountants, and consultants as well as providers of dental, vision, medical, or other services directly to plan participants.
