The cost of prescription drugs is usually reimbursed through the employer's medical plan. Some employers offer a separate drug plan because pharmacy plans can access volume purchasing to lower the cost of prescription drugs, especially maintenance drugs employees may be required to use for life, such as, high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and hormone replacement medications.
